Eric acts as Manzanita’s School-wide Rover (A.K.A. the “floating sub”), supporting instructional coverages when there are staff absences or student academic intervention needs. It is a vital role requiring skills with diverse ages of students. Eric demonstrated this skill working as a substitute teacher at Manzanita School many times over the 2023-24 school year and joined officially for the 2024-25 year. For the past 25 years, Eric worked for the Washington State Department of Children, Youth, and Families (DCYF) Juvenile Rehabilitation, in various positions including residential and community counselor, investigator, mentor, and state-wide program administrator. He has also volunteered as a member of his local School District Advisory Committee, the Youth Diversion Program for at-risk juveniles, and the Youth Services Board of Directors. Eric’s favorite quote is “I will get ready, then, perhaps, my chance will come.” He values that working at Manzanita is a completely different approach to education; something that is new, exciting, and encouraging. Outside of school hours, he enjoys many sports, making music, singing, theatre, and performing stand-up comedy.

Educational Background: Eric holds a BA degree in Community Services and is a Certified CA Substitute.
