Gabrielle acts as Manzanita’s Assistant Head of School, Director of Instruction, and Roots Director. She has been an educator and curriculum specialist for over 15 years. Gabrielle developed a 5th grade humanities curriculum for the Ramapo Central School District in Suffern, NY, with published Complete Four authors, Laurie Pastore and Patty Vitatle-Reilly. In 2009, she joined The New Village Leadership Academy, where she was both a teacher and a staff developer. It was there that she created a unique way of designing units of study to integrate the school’s core values with concepts and enduring understandings. These concept-based units built off the strengths and talents of the individual students while challenging their thinking. Gabrielle values that she gets to be part of a community, grow both personally and professionally, and have the opportunity to create life-changing experiences for students through Manzanita. She appreciates being on this amazing land daily while building relationships with colleagues and students. Outside school hours, dancing is Gabrielle’s main passion, with a deep love for ecstatic dance and seeing live bands. She also is passionate about hiking, yoga, meditation, and spending time with her sons, Sage and Zac.
Educational Background: Gabrielle holds an MS in Literacy Education and BA’s in both Elementary Education and Sociology. She has extensive training in Lucy Calkin's Reading and Writing Workshop and has worked one-on-one with Columbia Teachers College mentors.
